How to move Apps to a Workspace?

Drag an app onto another workspace in the sidebar to move it, keeping all its settings and sign-ins.

Reorganizing is easy: in Rambox 3 you move an app to another workspace by dragging it onto that workspace in the sidebar. The app keeps all its settings, its sign-in and its profile, so you don't have to set anything up again.

Pro feature

Moving apps between workspaces is available on the Pro plan and during the free trial. On Basic, the app simply goes back to its place when you drop it. How to become Pro

Move an app

  1. Open the workspace that contains the app.
  2. Press and hold the app's icon in the sidebar for a moment, then start dragging it. (The short hold prevents accidental drags.)
  3. Drag it over the workspace you want to move it to.
  4. Drop it in one of two ways:
    • Drop it on the workspace to add it at the end of that workspace's apps.
    • Hold it over the workspace for a moment. The workspace opens, showing its apps, and you can drop the app in the exact position you want.

That's it. The app now lives in the other workspace.

TIP

If the app you want to move is hidden in the … menu (More apps) because the sidebar is full, you can drag it straight out of that menu. If the workspace you want is hidden in More workspaces, expand the sidebar or drag the splitter between workspaces and apps so it's visible first. See Getting around Rambox.

What is kept when you move an app

  • All its settings: name, icon, notifications, sounds, hibernation, link handling and advanced options.
  • Its sign-in. If the app was set to Inherit from Workspace, Rambox keeps it on the profile it was using before the move, so it doesn't sign you out.
  • Its unread count, which now adds up to the new workspace's badge.

When you can't move an app

  • Tiles workspaces. Apps can't be dragged into or out of a workspace with a Tiles layout. See Tiles workspace layout.
  • Basic plan. Moving apps is a Pro feature. On Basic, the app goes back to its place.
  • Shared company apps. In an Enterprise account, apps your administrator added to a shared workspace can't be moved.

If something goes wrong while moving, Rambox shows Move App failed! Rolling back changes... and puts the app back where it was. Try again.

Changes from Rambox 2

Rambox 2 had a Move App button in the app's right-click menu. In Rambox 3, that button is gone: drag and drop is the way to move apps.

Great service changes everything.
