How to search inside an app?
Find a word or phrase on the page of the app you're looking at, just like Ctrl+F in a browser.
Just like in a web browser, you can search for text on the page of the app you're looking at: a name in a long chat, a word in a document, a number in a report.
Open the search box
Use either of these:
- Keyboard: Alt+Shift+F on Windows and Linux, or ⌘+Alt+F on macOS.
- Right-click anywhere inside the app's page and choose Search....
A small search box appears over the app.

Search and move between results
- Type what you're looking for. Matches are highlighted on the page, and a counter shows which match you're on and how many there are (for example, 2/7).
- Move between matches:
- Enter or the down arrow (Forward) goes to the next match.
- Shift+Enter or the up arrow (Back) goes to the previous one.
- Press Esc or click ✕ (Close) to close the search box.
Good to know
- The search looks only at the page of the app you're looking at, and only at what's loaded on the page. Many chat and email apps only load recent messages, so for older content use the app's own search.
- To find something across all your apps, use the Command Center (Ctrl+K, or ⌘+K on macOS). See Command Center and Unified Search.
- Shortcut not working? It may be switched off. Click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar, choose Shortcuts, and make sure Search is on. See Shortcuts.
