Install Rambox on macOS

Download Rambox 3 for Mac, move it to your Applications folder and sign in for the first time. Works on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Rambox for Mac is a single download that runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M-series) and Intel Macs. You install it like most Mac apps: by dragging it into your Applications folder.

REQUIREMENTS

macOS 12 (Monterey) or newer, on Apple Silicon or Intel.

Download Rambox

  1. Go to rambox.app/download.
  2. Click Download for macOS. The file is a disk image named something like Rambox-3.1.1-mac.dmg.

Install Rambox

  1. Open the .dmg file you downloaded (double-click it in Downloads or in your browser's downloads list).

  2. A window opens with the Rambox icon and a shortcut to your Applications folder. Drag the Rambox icon onto the Applications folder.

  3. Wait for the copy to finish, then eject the disk image (click the eject button next to "Rambox" in the Finder sidebar).

  4. Open Applications and double-click Rambox.

  5. The first time, macOS may warn that Rambox was downloaded from the internet. Click Open.

Keep it in the Dock

While Rambox is open, right-click its Dock icon and choose Options → Keep in Dock so it's always one click away.

First launch: sign in

The first time Rambox opens, you see the Sign in screen.

  1. Click Continue with your browser. Your default browser opens the Rambox sign-in page.
  2. Sign in (or create a free account) in the browser.
  3. When the browser asks whether to open Rambox, allow it. You're taken back to the app, already signed in.

Step-by-step help, including what to do if the browser doesn't bring you back, is in Signing in to Rambox. New accounts then get a short setup wizard: see First-run setup.

Camera, microphone and other permissions

macOS asks for your permission the first time an app inside Rambox wants to use the camera, microphone, screen recording, location or Bluetooth (for example, when you join a video call). Click Allow so your apps can use them.

You can review what macOS has granted to Rambox at any time in Settings → Privacy & security → Permissions. Each switch shows the current state and opens the matching page of macOS System Settings when you click it. See General settings.

If you denied a permission by mistake, see Issues sharing your camera, microphone or screen.

After installing

  • Updates are automatic. Rambox checks for new versions when it starts and every few hours, downloads them in the background and asks you to restart when they're ready. See About Rambox (version & updates).
  • The app menu is in the macOS menu bar, under Rambox, Edit, View, Window, Tools and Help. Settings are under Rambox → Settings (⌘+,).

Upgrading from Rambox 2?

Install Rambox 3 the same way and replace the old app when macOS asks. You'll be asked to sign in again, and your account is moved to the new format. Read Upgrading from Rambox 2 first.

Great service changes everything.
